Abstract

Background:  Traumatic injuries commonly affect the anterior teeth leading to slow death of the pulp. This may give rise to a periapical or radicular cyst which results from the proliferation of cell rests of Malassez following pulpal necrosis of a non- vital tooth. Radicular cyst or periapical cysts are the most common cystic lesions in the jaw. It is common odontogenic cyst. Around 60% of all jaw cysts are radicular cyst. This condition is usually asymptomatic but can result in a slow-growth tumefaction in the affected region. They found mostly near apex of teeth. Most radicular cysts are smaller size of around 1.5 cm, but they can even extend up to 5.6 cm. On radiography the lesion can be seen as a round or oval, well circumscribed radiolucent lesion in periapical region attaching the affected tooth root. This case reports presents the successful surgical and endodontic management of large infected radicular cyst involving the anterior teeth of maxilla. Pathogenesis, clinical features, and treatment option are discussed.
