Abstract

Background:  Alveolar ridge preservation is a method of decreasing bone resorption following tooth extraction and facilitating prosthetic rehablitation. Clinical procedures can be implemented only when there is proper understanding of the physiological responses occurring after extraction and the effects of ARP. Undesirable horizontal and vertical ridge reduction following extraction can be reduced by ARP with the help of  Guided bone regeneration, socket fillers, socket sealers and growth factors. However, presently there is no consensus on case selection, best clinical technique and material choice so ridge preservation is totally dependent on management of socket  following tooth extraction.
