Background: Supernumerary teeth are one of the most common anomalies in the human dentition, found most frequently in the maxillary anterior region causing impaction or displacement of the adjacent permanent teeth. The purpose of this study was to determine the prevalence of supernumerary teeth in orthodontic patients. Materials and methods: The study sample consisted of Orthopantomogram (OPG) of 700 (356 male and 344 female) patients in the department of orthodontics and dentofacial orthopaedics, Patna dental college and hospital, Patna. All the radiographs were examined for the presence of any supernumerary tooth. Data thus collected was subjected to statistical analysis. Conclusions: A prevalence of 1.2% was found in our study. Male showed a higher predilection as compared to females. The most common supernumerary tooth was found to be mesiodens located at the maxillary anterior region.
