Microsurgical concepts have recently been introduced into the field of periodontics. The surgical microscope offers the periodontist increased illumination and visual acuity to perform procedures with greater precision than with other methods of magnification. This article is an attempt to introduce and familiarize the periodontist with the surgical operating microscope, its microsurgical principles and also offers suggestions for integrating the microscope into periodontal practice. Keywords: Magnification, illumination, microsurgery, periodontal microsurgery.
