Abstract

Orthodontic retainers play a crucial role in maintaining the results achieved through orthodontic treatment by preventing relapse and ensuring long-term stability. This review critically examines the various types of orthodontic retainers, including removable and fixed retainers, and evaluates their effectiveness, patient compliance, advantages, and disadvantages. The review also explores recent advancements in retainer materials and designs, their impact on oral hygiene, and long-term retention outcomes. By analyzing current literature, this review aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of the best practices in retainer use and offer insights into future directions for research and clinical practice.
