Background: Complete dentures are primarily mechanical devices, but since they function in oral cavity, they must be fashioned so that they are in harmony with normal neuromuscular function. All oral functions such as speech, mastication, swallowing, smiling, and laughing, involve the synergistic actions of the tongue, lips, cheeks, and floor of the mouth which are complex and highly individual. Muscle action influences the fabrication of denture at every step. The oro-facial muscles influencing complete denture prosthesis are muscles of facial expression, muscles of mastication, muscles of tongue, muscles of soft palate, pharyngeal muscles, suprahyoid muscles, infrahyoid muscles. The coordinated activity of these muscles is briefly discussed.
Keywords: Muscles, Complete Denture, Buccinator, Modiolus, Orbicularis Oris, dislocating muscles, fixing muscles.
