Abstract

Background:  As the implant treatment modality is gaining popularity in the field of dentistry, the clinicians should introduce protocols for a systematic and consistent supportive care of the peri-implant tissues. Even though dental implants have known to be a reliable long-term treatment modality for patients, it should be understood that all the implants may not be successful and failures do occur. Management and maintenance phase play a vital role in the long-term success of implant treatment. There should be an effective teamwork between the dental team and the patient during this lifelong therapy. A diligent homecare by the patient is mandatory to increase the success of their implants.  There should be a continuous encouragement by the clinician so that the patients adhere to the homecare instructions. This review article describes certain guidelines for management and maintenance care of dental implants.
