Aims and Objectives: To investigate the impact of OHL on Oral health-related quality of life (OHRQoL) among adult patients seeking dental care in The Oxford Dental College, Bangalore. Materials and Methods: A total of 400 patients seeking dental care were given a questionnaire that included demographic variables, Oral Health Literacy (OHL), oral health knowledge (OHK) and short version of Oral Health Impact Profile (OHIP - 14). Results: The study group consists of 218 (54%) females. The sample majority was graduated (71%) and a mean age of 30 years. 226 (57%) of patients had socio – economic status of upper middle class. The proportion of patients with inadequate OHL and inadequate OHK was 26% and 71%, respectively. The OHIP – 14 mean severity and extent scores for males were 0.80 and 0.87 respectively and for females were 12.93 and 10.78 respectively. A significant association (p <0.001) with all the three OHRQoL measures, OHL and OHK was seen. Conclusion: This study documents that OHL and OHK has a significant impact on OHRQoL.
