Abstract

Background:  Hemi-maxillectomy patients with large defect are more challenging for oral rehabilitation due to its complexity. The extent and location of the defects influence the degree of impairment and difficulty in prosthetic rehabilitation. The Lack of support, retention and stability are common prosthodontic treatment problems for patients who had a hemi-maxillectomy. Maxillofacial defects result in difficulty in mastication, deglutition, regurgitation of food, nasal twang and facial disfigurement thus leading to psychological problems. In the present case hemi-maxillectomy defect was rehabilitated with cast partial obturator with hollow bulb which helps in retention of prosthesis, reducing the weight of the prosthesis and restore the facial appearance of the patient.

Keywords: Cast partial framework, hollow bulb obturator, hemi-maxillectomy, maxillofacial prosthesis.
