Abstract

Background:  The aims of this study were to correlate the clinical stability of titanium miniscrews when used as orthodontic anchorage for en-mass retraction and to assess bone quality. Material and Method: Study consisted of 30 patients were chosen and their bone density was assessed via denta scan. Clinical stability was assessed after 45 days.  Result: Among the study population, 8 were less than 18 year of age, 16 were between 19-21 year of age, and 6 were more than 21 year of age. Out of 60 miniscrews which is placed on the maxillary arch, 48 of them were clinically stable after 30 days, and the BMD value of those clinically stable miniscrews was more than 200(HU). 12 miniscrews loosened before 30 days and the BMD value of those miniscrews was less than 200(HU).  Conclusion: It was demonstrated that miniscrew implants have a lower failure rate of 20%, indicating their usefulness in clinical practice.  There was a significant relationship between BMD and the success rate of miniscrew, shows population having more than 200 HU of bone density having great chances of success of their miniscrew stability.
