Aim: The aim of the study was to evaluate modifications in the canal anatomy of curved canals following glide path preparation using four files systems (Hyflex GPF, Scout-Race files, V Glide path two file system, and ProGlider rotary glide path files). Methods: A total of 80 recently extracted intact and carious free human permanent mandibular first molars with mature apices were selected from the Department of
Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Seema Dental College and Hospital for this study. RVG radiographs were recorded before the instrumentation. In an attempt to standardize the length of root canal, teeth were decoronated at the cemento-enamel junction using high-speed alloy grinder to get approximately 14 mm length of samples to confirm the presence of two distinct and separate root canals. Coronal access was achieved
using high-speed water cooling Airotor along with Endo-Access Bur to obtain a straight-line access. Each tooth was sectioned through the furcation, and mesial portion of the root and crown was used. Distal roots with the respective part of the crown were sectioned at the furcation level and discarded. Working length was established in 80 specimens by deducting 1 mm from actual canal length which had been
determined by inserting No. 15 K, 21 mm stainless steel file into the canal until the tip of the file was just visible at the apical foramen. Working length was confirmed with RVG radiograph. Imaging of all the groups was done with cone-beam computed tomographic imaging to obtain a pre-treatment and post-treatment outline of the root canals. Study images were reconstructed from the volumetric data set in
planes perpendicular to the selected tooth axis. Results: Hyflex GPF Files did the least modifications in canal anatomy as compared to other groups (P < 0.05). Conclusion: Within the parameters of this study, it was concluded that Hyflex GPF did the least modifications in canal anatomy as compared to other groups.
