Aim: The objective of the study was to assess Dental Plaque and Oral lesions in patients who were undergoing fixed orthodontic treatment. Material and methods: A descriptive cross sectional study was conducted to assess WSL in 253 subjects (78 males and 175 females), aged 15-24 years, undergoing fixed orthodontic treatment at Department of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics, Private Dental Institute. Data was recorded using Orthoplaque index for Dental Plaque and for Oral lesion visual examination using mouth mirror. Data was tabulated and compared based on different types of malocclusion (Angle Class I, II and III) and duration of orthodontic treatment (Group A, B, C and D). Result: The results of this study revealed that according to malocclusion OPI scores (p<0.001) was statistically more significant in subjects with Class I malocclusion and Percentage of presence was more in Class II malocclusion. According to duration of treatment, OPI score was highest in Group D (p<0.001). There was no statistical significant difference found in prevalence of oral mucosal lesions according to duration of treatment (p=0.42) Conclusion: An orthodontic bracket tends to retend Dental Plaque, therefore proper oral hygiene instructions should be given to the patients. Constant motivation and repeated instuction by the orthodontists also plays an important roe for the success of orthodontic treatment.
